Most organisations already own terabytes they are not using — on a Windows Server, spare PC disks, a NAS, OneDrive extra copies. StorageMesh turns that into one ordinary S3 endpoint for Veeam and other backup tools. The product is the savings meter: a documented cut in the cloud storage bill, with the evidence attached. Data stays on your machines. AWI never hosts the files.

The number that goes down
Buyers do not evaluate us against MinIO's feature list. They evaluate us against the Azure or AWS line item. Every screen leads with what you stopped paying, after protection cost is shown honestly.
Hardware you already paid for
Uneven disks, PCs that sleep, a NAS in another building. StorageMesh is built for that mess. Dedicated identical servers are not required. Nodes that go offline are normal — copies rebuild when they return.

StorageMesh is the cheap, compliant object repository underneath backup software you already own. It is not a rival to Veeam, Commvault or Acronis.
Offices with only internet
Branch offices that have no WAN still join: a site-to-site VPN is the default we recommend. Extra copies can also land on OneDrive over HTTPS. Console and S3 stay at the Primary — not on the public internet.
OneDrive as extra copies only
Microsoft Graph, encrypted, never the last copy, never the OneDrive folder on disk. Each person who signs in on the Primary adds capacity. We do not resell Microsoft quota.
Discovery before you buy
A read-only scan of idle capacity and current cloud spend. It defeats “do nothing”, and it stamps the baseline the savings meter needs. Charging for that would cost more deals than it earns.

Frequently asked questions
Is this a replacement for OneDrive or Google Drive?
No. StorageMesh is backup and archive behind an S3 API. It is not a desktop sync client, and it will not put shards inside a OneDrive or Drive folder. Staff keep working in the tools they already use.
Do we need identical servers?
No. That is the gap MinIO leaves. A Windows Server as Primary plus ordinary Windows PCs or Macs as Secondary is the intended install. Machines may be switched off; the pool treats that as normal.
Can branch offices join over the internet?
Yes. Prefer a VPN or SD-WAN between sites so the mesh looks like a LAN. If there is no VPN, TLS and allow-listed ports 7700 and 7710 are required. Do not publish the console or S3 endpoint on the public internet.
Where does the data live?
On your machines and on cloud accounts you already own. Object bytes never go to Alpha Web. A hosted control plane, if you ever opt in, is metadata only — never object keys or file names.
How is it licensed?
One site licence for the whole mesh — not a key per PC. Community use is free inside published capacity limits. Paid licences are per managed terabyte. The public price list is not released yet; ask us for a quote, or ask as a distributor.
What happens if we go over the licensed capacity?
Reads, deletes and repairs keep working. Only new writes pause until the licence is updated. We do not hold your data hostage over a licence check.
What if the Primary server uses DHCP and its IP changes?
Join using the computer name (http://SERVER-NAME:7700), not today’s IP. StorageMesh also announces itself on the office LAN so Secondaries find the Primary again after a restart. A DHCP reservation on that server is still the cleanest setup. Between offices, use a VPN and a DNS name.
Is Mac supported?
As a Secondary only — spare disk in the pool. Primary stays on Windows Server or a Windows PC. Ask us for StorageMesh-Secondary-macOS.zip; on the Mac unzip and double-click Install.command (Right-click → Open the first time — it is not yet Apple-notarized).
